The story “Hare Paws” by Paustovsky, written in 1937, raises several serious topics at once. One day Vanya Malyavin brought an injured hare to the veterinarian, who was “crying and often blinking his eyes red from tears.” He refused to treat the sick animal, and even advised him to fry it with onions.
Coming out into the hallway, Vanya began to cry from his own powerlessness - if the hare injured in the fire is not cured, he will die. He was consoled by the “compassionate grandmother Anisya” and advised him to take his pet to “the city to Karl Petrovich.”
Thanking him for the advice, Vanya ran as fast as he could to his grandfather, Larion Malyavin. The road was long, and it was necessary to quickly help the unfortunate animal, who was groaning in pain.
The next morning Vanya and his grandfather went to the city. They went to the pharmacy to find out where Karl Petrovich lived. It turned out that this was a pediatrician who had “stopped seeing patients for three years,” and the pharmacist reluctantly gave the address of the respected doctor.
Having found the right street, the grandfather turned to the doctor for help, to which he indignantly replied that he “all his life treated children, not hares.” But grandfather insisted, because he owed his life to this hare. After his story, Karl Petrovich, without further ado, provided medical assistance to the sufferer.
Larion Malyavin told how, while hunting, he came across a little hare with a “torn left ear.” He fired, but missed. At that time, “the forests were as dry as gunpowder,” and the man felt a strong whiff of smoke from the south. A strong wind arose and choking smoke approached at rapid speed.
The grandfather realized that a forest fire had started and was attacking him from all sides. He was on the verge of death when he noticed a familiar bunny. Being an experienced hunter, Vanya’s grandfather knew very well that during a fire, animals instinctively choose the right path. He ran after the hare, and after a while both were at a safe distance from the raging flame.
So the hare saved the grandfather from certain death, and he, in turn, healed his burnt paws.

However, while saving a man, the hare severely burns his paws, and the grandfather decides to take the bunny for treatment.
The grandfather sends his grandson with the sick animal to the local veterinarian, but the village doctor refuses to examine the wild hare and throws the boy out the door. The desperate child, looking at the suffering hare with watery eyes, does not know what to do, but the granny sitting on the bench, feeling sorry for the boy, advises him to take the hare to the city doctor Karl Petrovich.
The next day, the grandfather and grandson go to the city, where they cannot find the address of the person they need. Having entered the nearest pharmacy, luck favors them and the old pharmacist shows them the address of Karl Petrovich, who turns out to be not a veterinarian, but a children's doctor, currently retired.
Having reached Kard Petrovich, the grandfather and the boy barely manage to persuade him to examine the bunny. Only the story told by the hunter about his savior from the fire forces the doctor to begin treating the animal. Vanya helps the doctor, staying close to his ward.
Once the bunny has recovered, Grandfather and Vanya are released into the forest. Word of the hare-hero spreads among local residents and eventually an interview with Karl Petrovich about his unusual patient appears in a Moscow newspaper.

Konstantin Georgievich Paustovsky is a famous Soviet writer, whose works have been translated into many languages more than once and received unprecedented success. His works teach readers respect, sensitivity, and love. Paustovsky's story “Hare's Paws” is an amazing work that teaches us love and gratitude for animals.
Surprisingly, what can a person owe to an animal? After Larion Malyavin, the main character of “Hare’s Paws,” was saved by a hare from a forest fire, the old man realized that he was guilty before the animal. What did the old man owe to the hare and why was he guilty before the animal?

Due to the fact that the family broke up, Konstantin, from the sixth grade, was forced to work on an equal basis with adults in order to earn money for his studies and for a living. The boy became a tutor. And he wrote his first story in 1911, it was published in the magazine “Lights”.
Even as a child, Kostya dreamed of traveling. Over time, he realized his dream, visiting many countries. Impressions from these trips and meetings with different people formed the basis of many of his essays. But, as the writer himself later admitted, there are no better places in Central Russia.

A child brought a small bunny wrapped in a boy’s cotton jacket to the veterinarian. From the very first lines there is pity for this little creature; the author writes that the hare was crying, his eyes were red from tears. But the veterinarian didn’t even ask what happened; he shouted at the boy, saying that he would soon be carrying mice to him. The child could not stand it and replied that there was no need to swear, this hare was special, his grandfather had sent him to cure him.
When the veterinarian asked what happened, the boy replied that his paws were burned. Instead of helping the animal, the veterinarian pushed the child in the back and shouted after him that he did not know how to treat them and advised them to roast the hare. The boy did not respond to such cruel words. This is how Konstantin Paustovsky begins his story. The hare's paws were damaged due to a forest fire. The reader will learn about this incident later.

After leaving the veterinarian, the boy also began to cry. Grandma Anisya saw him. The child shared his sadness with her, to which the old woman advised him to contact Dr. Karl Petrovich, who lives in the city. Vanya quickly went to his grandfather to tell him everything.

When the little ear finally recovered, Vanya took him home. This story was quickly forgotten, only a professor from Moscow really wanted his grandfather to sell him a four-legged celebrity. But Larion refused. 
What happened then in the forest?

Larion felt that the fire was already grabbing him by the shoulders, but then he saw a hare jump out from under his feet. He ran slowly, it was clear that his hind legs were injured, as he was dragging them. The old man rejoiced at the beast as if it were his own. He knew that animals have a special sense; they sense where to run to escape a fire.
With the last of his strength, the elderly man ran after the hare, asking him not to run quickly. So the little eared one brought Larion out of the fire. Once on the shore of the lake, both fell exhausted. Then it was time for the old man to take care of his savior. He took his little friend in his arms and carried him home. When Ushastika was cured, the old man kept him with him.
The ending of the story is predictable for some, unexpected for others. Larion repented that he was guilty before the animal. After all, it was the same hare with a torn ear that he almost shot.

Analyzing the main characters, we can say that the author told little about their external appearance, but gave the reader the opportunity to see the internal state of these noble people. The writer said that the old man walked in boots and with a stick. He was a kind man with a high sense of responsibility. Vanya is also a good and caring boy, he sincerely worries about the hare, which speaks of the child’s responsiveness and kind heart.
If we analyze natural landscapes, it is clear that the author presented them in two forms. The first is the heat, the hurricane, which started a strong fire. The second is a cold autumn, October night, when it is so good to sit with a cup of tea in the house and talk, as Konstantin Georgievich and Larion did. Natural descriptions help the reader to be completely immersed in the story, to be at the scene of events with the characters. This concludes the brief retelling.
